Boeing whistleblower John Barnett, who gained international attention after he raised concerns about the aeroplane manufacturing firm’s production standards, has been found dead in the United States, as per media reports.

The 62-year-old was found dead on March 9 in his truck in a hotel car park from a “self-inflicted” wound, reported BBC quoting a Boeing statement. It added that police are investigating the incident.

“We are saddened by Mr. Barnett’s passing, and our thoughts are with his family and friends,” Boeing said in a statement.

Barnett, who had worked at Boeing for 32 years before his retirement in 2017, had been involved in a lengthy lawsuit with the American company over his claims that he had uncovered serious problems with the planes’ oxygen systems.

Boeing had denied his charges.
