Kensington Palace Sunday released the first official photo of Princess of Wales Kate Middleton since her reported abdominal surgery in January, putting continued speculations and controversies swirling around on social media to rest.

The photograph taken by Prince William, shows the princess with her three children —  Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis — at the Kensington Palace. It was posted on the Palace’s official handle on the occasion of Mothers’ Day, celebrated on March 10 this year in the United Kingdom.

The post is accompanied by a Mother’s Day message along with a thank you from Princess Kate for the public’s “continued support”. “Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the last two months. Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day,” she signed off with a “C.”

Princess Kate was last seen in public during Christmas 2023.

Prince William and Kate’s office has not confirmed any scheduled public events for the Princess so far. “Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter,” the Kensington Palace said in a statement on January 17, 2024.

In a follow-up issued on January 29, Kensington Palace said that the Princess had returned home and was making good progress from her surgery.

Princess Kate has been away from the public eye since January, reportedly recovering from an abdominal surgery.

Over the last few weeks, the internet was flooded with controversies about Princess of Wales’ health and the exact nature of the surgery.

The attention on Kate’s health can partly be attributed to the timing of her absence. With Buckingham Palace announcing King Charles’ prostate cancer diagnosis in early February, two key royal family members appeared to have retired from public-facing duties, leaving a vacuum in the wake of Queen Elizabeth’s death in 2022.

However, a spokesperson for Kate refused to comment on her health status. “Kensington Palace made it clear in January the timelines of the princess’s recovery. We said we’d only be providing significant updates. That guidance stands,” the spokesperson told BBC then.
