Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has announced his support for Republican former President Donald Trump in the race for the upcoming US presidential election, but the workers in his bouquet of companies are majorly donating to rival Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris.

Workers at Musk’s electric car manufacturing company Tesla have contributed $42,824 to Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign in comparison to $24,840 towards Trump campaign, according to data compiled by OpenSecrets, a nonpartisan nonprofit that tracks U.S. campaign contributions and lobbying data, news agency Reuters reported.

Likewise, employees at Musk’s space rocket firm SpaceX have contributed $34,526 to Harris’ campaign while they donated $7,652 to the Trump campaign.

And at the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), which Musk acquired in 2022, employees have donated $13,213 to Harris’ campaign while they have donated less than $500 to Trump’s campaign.

Figures of the contribution made by the employees of Musk’s collection of companies are relatively small for presidential campaign fundraising but certainly reflects the political leaning of the staff whose owner is openly supporting the Republican nominee Donald Trump.

In the 2020 presidential election, Musk had supported President Joe Biden but has changed his allegiance since then and tilted towards the right. Trump has already announced that if he wins the November election, then he would appoint Musk to lead a government efficiency commission.

According to a Reuters report, the OpenSecrets data includes donations from company employees and owners and those individuals’ immediate family members. Campaign finance laws prohibit companies themselves from donating to federal campaigns.

The US presidential election is scheduled to take place on November 5 and the arch rival Republican’s Donald Trump and Democrats’ Kamala Harris’ fate would be decided.
