Republic presidential nominee Donald Trump Monday thanked the US secret service after an apparent second assassination attempt took place Sunday at his golf club in Florida’s West Palm Beach.

The former President applauded the entire American Secret service along with Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and the entire law enforcement team who were responsible for keeping him safe.

“I would like to thank everyone for your concern and well wishes – It was certainly an interesting day! Most importantly, I want to thank the U.S. Secret Service, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and his Office of brave and dedicated Patriots, and, all of Law Enforcement, for the incredible job done today at Trump International in keeping me, as the 45th President of the United States, and the Republican Nominee in the upcoming Presidential Election, SAFE. THE JOB DONE WAS ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. I AM VERY PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!” Trump posted on social media platform Truth Social.

On Sunday, Secret Services agents confronted a man, hiding in the bushes, armed with an AK-style rifle about 400-500 yards away from Trump. The personnel fired at least four rounds of ammunition, and the gunman managed to escape in a black Nissan car. The suspected gunman has been identified as Ryan Wesley Routh.

Earlier, Trump’s campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said that the former president was safe post the apparent assassination attempt. In an e-mail to his supporters, Trump had informed about the incident, and confirmed that he was safe and well. US Secret Service Communications chief Anthony Guglielmi said on X that his team along with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident that occurred shortly before 2 pm.

“The Secret Service did exactly what should have been done,” Bradshaw was quoted as saying by news agency Reuters, declining to provide a possible motive.

The incident comes just two months after another assassination attempt on Trump, where a gunshot razed through his ear during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania in July.
