An orange alert had been issued in the UAE on Thursday, as heavy rains and thunderstorms swept through the Emirate, reported Khaleej Times. Residents woke up to downpours and strong winds in their neighborhoods.

Preparations had been underway in the UAE for the anticipated wave of unstable weather over the past few days, with forecasts indicating its peak on Thursday and Friday. Safety advisories were disseminated across various sectors, prompting schools and offices to operate remotely.

Emirates cancelled several flights due to adverse weather conditions, leading to reduced flight activity at Dubai International Airport. Passengers traveling through Dubai airport on Thursday were cautioned to expect delays as flights were rescheduled, as per an airline statement.

Similarly, Dubai’s Road Transport Authority (RTA) notified bus users of the temporary suspension for the intercity bus services due to the rainfall.

In response to the unstable weather, Dubai’s municipality announced on Wednesday the closure of all beaches, public parks, and markets in the UAE. These closures will remain in effect throughout Thursday. Moreover, a public alert was issued to the public to avoid valley areas, low-laying places and exercise caution while driving vehicles.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued alerts indicating heavy rains since midnight, with Dubai experiencing showers and lightning as early as 2:35 am. The local police in Dubai is closely monitoring the situation.

Notably, the Arabian Peninsula witnessed severe rainfall on April 14 and 15. Dubai received over 14 cm of rain within 24 hours, marking the heaviest downpour recorded in 75 years. Four individuals lost their lives after being trapped in flooded vehicles in the UAE.
