Students protesting against the raging war in Gaza took over Columbia University’s Hamilton Hall shortly after midnight on Tuesday, prompting the college authorities to call in the New York Police.

The phrase,”Dispose. Divest. We will not stop. We will not rest” was visible in video footage as students joined hands in front of the Hamilton Hall.

This footage shows chairs and other heavy objects being brought to the door to build a barricade. According to some reports, the protesters are already leaking into other buildings, with the same goal.

Students displayed a white banner, renaming the building ‘Hind’s Hall’, in memory of Hind Rajab, a six-year-old girl who died in North Gaza in February, according to The New York Times. A group of students were also seen clapping and chanting slogans on the campus grounds.

They were chanting slogans and barricading the entrances of the building, while carrying Palestinian flags. A tent encampment on the school’s grounds began nearly two weeks ago to protest the Israel-Hamas war.

The video showed students clapping, holding pro-Palestinian banners, and shouting “Shut it down, Shut it down.” While some students barricaded the building from inside, many camped outside to protest. Protesters have ignored repeated warnings from the university that if they do not stop with the encampments, they will face expulsion.

It was renamed after Hind Rajab, the 6-year-old #Palestinian girl who was brutally killed by Israeli tanks a couple of months ago.

Universities across the US have seen protests by the students, demanding that they cut financial ties with Israel. More than 1,000 students have been arrested.

Dozens more were arrested late Thursday night as New York Police cleared the encampment from the Hamilton Hall.
