Israel named the 13 hostages released by Hamas as part of a temporary ceasefire deal.

Hamas on Friday released 24 hostages—13 Israelis, 10 people from Thailand and a Filipino citizen—as part of the ceasefire deal, the Associated Press reported. The hostages, women and children, were sent to Israel and underwent medical checks. They were set to be reunited with their families weeks after being taken hostage by Hamas.

Hamas launched a surprise attack against Israel on October 7, attacking from the land, air and sea from the Gaza Strip. Israel subsequently launched its heaviest-ever airstrikes on Gaza and has since launched a ground operation. The Associated Press reported that at least 11,000 people in Gaza and 1,400 in Israel have been killed in the war. Roughly 240 people were taken captive from Israel by Hamas.

In total, 50 hostages are set to be free throughout the temporary ceasefire. Meanwhile, 39 Palestinian prisoners are set to be released from Israel on Friday, according to the AP. Israel is expected to free a total of 150 Palestinian prisoners.

The release of the hostages was celebrated on social media Friday.

"Relieved to see that these 13 captives are back on Israeli soil. We will not rest until all the hostages brutally seized by Hamas on Oct 7 return home. #BringThemAllHome," the Anti-Defamation League posted to X, formerly Twitter.

"Glad that 13 hostages were released from Hamas captivity. What a relief for their loved ones - yet ongoing anguish for 200 other families and all innocents suffering. #BringThemALLHome and build a future with peace and opportunity for Israelis and Palestinians," posted Christine Pelosi, the daughter of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Friday reported that unspecified Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip violated the ceasefire after only 15 minutes and intercepted a rocket fired toward southern Israel. It remained unclear who exactly was responsible for the rocket launch.

The ceasefire comes after several weeks of negotiations between Israel, Hamas, the United States, Egypt and Qatar and is the first significant pause in combat since October 7. During the four-day pause, humanitarian aid trucks will also be allowed to enter the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing along the Egyptian border.

Israel has substantially limited the flow of aid into Gaza and has cut off supplies of electricity, food and water, sparking humanitarian concerns about the 2.3 million civilians in the territory.

The Times of Israel also reported the IDF used riot dispersal measures to prevent Palestinians from returning to their homes in the northern part of the Gaza Strip amid the pause in fighting.

Israel has said the ceasefire could be extended if Hamas releases more hostages but plans to resume its military action in Gaza after the truce expires, according to the AP.
