An American who is serving in Ukraine's military has blasted conservative media personality Tucker Carlson for his visit to Russia.

"Carlson isn't just an enemy of democracy, he is an enemy of humanity itself," Sarah Ashton-Cirillo, a junior sergeant in Kyiv's armed forces, told Newsweek.

Carlson arrived in Moscow last Thursday, according to various Russian media outlets, and he has been pictured at various spots, such as the Bolshoi Theater. His visit immediately launched speculation that he would soon interview Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin on Monday declined to comment when asked about a possible talk between Putin and Carlson.

Meanwhile, when a reporter from the pro-Kremlin newspaper Izvestia asked Carlson on Monday if he would interview Putin while in Moscow, the former Fox News host said: "We'll see."

In comments made exclusively to Newsweek, Ashton-Cirillo, who arrived in Ukraine in March 2022 to work as a journalist before enlisting in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, denounced Carlson's trip to Russia.

"Despite trying to project an alpha male attitude, Tucker Carlson has shown time and again he is simply the Kremlin's favorite court eunuch," Ashton-Cirillo said. "Tucker's inability to decipher fact from fiction makes him better suited to host a reboot of The Twilight Zone than be given the opportunity to engage in the rambling theories favored by war criminals such as Vlad Putin."

Newsweek reached out to Carlson via email on Monday for comment.

Ashton-Cirillo continued: "Loving the United States is about embracing values such as individual liberty and community-wide freedoms, yet Carlson dedicates space on his show to topics such as the dead Russian chaos agent Gonzalo Lira and alleged human traffickers such as Andrew Tate."

Lira, a Chilean American, died in a Ukrainian jail last month after being imprisoned for allegedly spreading pro-Kremlin propaganda and then violating his bail conditions. Carlson has raised questions about Lira's detention and death.

Ashton-Cirillo's work in Ukraine has gained international attention, especially during a since-concluded tenure as a spokesperson for the Territorial Defense Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Her transgender identity has been the subject of attacks by Russian media as well as by American conservative activist/talk show host Charlie Kirk. On Monday, Russia's state financial watchdog Rosfinmonitoring added Ashton-Cirillo to its list of "extremists and terrorists."

In her comments to Newsweek, Ashton-Cirillo said she would be willing to go before Congress to testify about Carlson.

"Maybe it is time Tucker and I are called to the Senate to testify and figure if Carlson really is the foreign agent he clearly seems to show himself off as," she said.
