A top U.S. State Department official resigned from President Joe Biden's administration this week.

On Friday, The Washington Post reported that Andrew Miller, who served as the deputy assistant secretary for Israeli-Palestinian Affairs, announced his resignation from the State Department, citing officials with knowledge of the situation. The Post noted that Miller was a "skeptic" of Biden's support for Israel and favored "a sharper break" with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the war in Gaza.

In a statement to The Washington Post, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller confirmed the resignation and said, "Everyone here is sorry to see him go, but we wish him well in his next endeavors."

"Andrew brought deep experience and sharp perspective to the table every day," Matthew Miller added in the statement.

Newsweek reached out to the U.S. State Department via its website for comment. Newsweek also reached out to the White House via email for comment.

This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available.
