Good morning and welcome to Newsweek's summary of Friday's national, regional and international newspapers.

The New York Times

Will Joe Biden walk in Ronald Reagan's footsteps with his speech in Normandy? The New York Times covers Biden's visit to Normandy for the D-Day anniversary. "The aging American president facing a re-election campaign came to Normandy to pay tribute to the daring Army Rangers," writes the paper. It also focuses on Israeli operations in Gaza.

The Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal focuses on the decision of the European Central Bank to lower interest rates for the first time since 2019. The ECB's rate setting committee does not want to pre-commit to this path for the future, said the bank, and will await new economic data before making further commitments. The publication also covers a buried Apple project to develop Siri as an advanced AI assistant.

The Washington Post

The Washington Post also leads on Joe Biden joining world leaders in Normandy to mark D-Day. The publication focuses on the president's speech about "the hour of trial." The paper also writes about the conflict in Israel and Ukraine. Russia's constant bombing of Ukraine's power plants has led to blackouts in big cities such as the capital, Kyiv, where the electricity has to be turned off for hours every day.

New York Post

The New York Post splashes on the Hunter Biden trial. Hallie Biden, the widow of Beau Biden who later dated his brother, testified in court. Joe Biden's daughter-in-law spoke of a gun she found in Hunter Biden's car and disposed of in 2018, the paper reports. Her testimony also covered Biden's addiction. The paper also writes about an emotional moment between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and a D-Day veteran.

The Boston Globe

The Boston Globe splashes on the Celtics beating the Dallas Mavericks to put them ahead 1-0 in the NBA finals. The paper jokingly describes Boston as "the self-proclaimed hub of the universe, the Athens of America." Another big story covers a deadly Israeli strike on a shelter in Gaza. Israeli forces say they targeted Hamas fighters who were hiding in the United Nations school.

Houston Chronicle

The Houston Chronicle reports that Sugar Land in Texas is looking for partners to finance a new power plant. The city council already found a company to undertake the geotechnical surveying before they can move to phase 2. Just like other publications, the Houston Chronicle also covers Biden's speech on D-Day focusing on his promises to Ukraine that America "will not walk away."
