Capitol Police have told members of Congress to "stay inside" on Wednesday, said Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, after officers received intelligence that lawmakers could be targeted during a pro-Palestinian protest in Washington, D.C.

The conflict in Gaza has divided the U.S., with pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian rallies held in a number of cities.

On October 7, Hamas led the deadliest Palestinian militant attack on Israel in history. Israel subsequently launched its heaviest ever airstrikes on Gaza. As of Wednesday, at least 3,200 people have been killed in Gaza, the Associated Press reported. More than 1,400 Israelis have been killed, according to the AP.

Greene, a Republican from Georgia, declared that she was "for peace" on Wednesday morning as she shared a video showing police officers installing barricades near the Capitol building in preparation for the protest.

"Last night Cap Police put up bike racks bc of expected Pro Palestinian protest today and Intel that members of congress will be targeted," Greene posted on X, formerly Twitter.

"They told us to stay inside and only use the underground tunnels. Biden admin wants to go to war. I'm for peace!"

The D.C. protest is taking place amid reports of an increase in antisemitic and anti-Islamic hate crimes, and as President Joe Biden visits Israel for talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog.

It comes a day after about 500 people were killed when a missile struck a hospital in Gaza. Hamas has blamed Israel for the strike; Israel has said the rocket was fired by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group but fell short of its intended target.

Greene, a fierce critic of the president who has repeatedly called for him to be impeached, shared her social media post ahead of Biden's trip to Tel Aviv.

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby told reporters on Tuesday that Biden would be "going to get a sense from the Israelis about the situation on the ground and, more critically, their objectives, their plans, their intentions in the days and weeks ahead.

"And he'll be asking some tough questions. He'll be asking them as a friend—as a true friend of Israel. But he will be asking some questions of them."

Newsweek has reached out to the White House by email for comment.

Greene's post raised eyebrows, with some X users interpreting the "I'm for peace" comment as meaning she didn't support Israel in the conflict.

"So thanks for letting us know that you don't support Israel," journalist and social media personality Ed Krassenstein wrote in reply.

However, Greene has repeatedly taken a stance against Hamas. In a social media post on Sunday, she called for Hamas supporters in the U.S. to be deported.
