Burger King in Israel is facing calls for a boycott after it posted photos showing that it was donating free meals to Israeli soldiers amid ongoing fighting with Hamas.

Earlier this month, Burger King Israel posted pictures to its Instagram page showcasing Israeli soldiers receiving free meals.

"We went out to strengthen the nation Israel," the post's translated caption said. "Our teams are working diligently to continue donating thousands of meals to our heroes. Burger King sends condolences to the families of the victims."

The post comes after Hamas led the deadliest Palestinian militant attack on Israel in history on October 7. Israel subsequently launched its heaviest-ever airstrikes on Gaza and is expected to launch a ground offensive in the area in the coming days.

Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, a spokesperson for the Israeli military, recently said that the country is increasing airstrikes on the Gaza Strip to prepare for another aspect of the ongoing war, according to CBS News.

"We will deepen our attacks to minimize the dangers to our forces in the next stages of the war. We are going to increase the attacks, from today," Hagari said.

Shortly after the post from Burger King Israel, a number of other social media users reacted negatively, calling for a boycott of the fast-food chain.

In a series of posts on X, formerly Twitter, the Palestinian BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) Movement, shared criticism of Burger King Israel and other companies that have shown support for the Middle Eastern country.

"Other companies, including @McDonalds, @Dominos, @PizzaHut, and @PapaJohns have also made generous donations to Israel's genocidal military," it wrote in its Monday morning post, sharing screenshots of the restaurants mentioned, as well as Burger King.

In another post, the account added: "They all deserve to be boycotted and divested from, regardless of the claim that their branches in various countries are wholly or partially owned by local businesses."

One X user wrote, "Boycott McDonald's, Burger King, Hardee's, Subway, Nestle, Coca-Cola, and Starbucks."

Another user commented, "Boycott the products who supports the Terrorist state #Israel," and listed a number of companies, including Burger King.

Newsweek reached out to Burger King's press office via email for comment.

Last week, McDonald's faced a similar boycott after posting images showing that it was also donating free meals to Israeli soldiers.

"McDonalds providing free meals to the IDF, (the military forces of Israel). We should stand by our principles and take actions that align with our beliefs. Lets boycott McDonalds bcz Supporting companies that are involved in conflicts is wrong, especially when it comes to the loss of innocent lives...Let's raise awareness and encourage accountability from these brands. Remember, every individual's voice and actions can make a difference in shaping a more just world," one X user wrote.

Following the calls to boycott McDonald's by some, others expressed support for the donated meals.

"People are gold! Well done to you guys! Sacred work," one commenter wrote on the McDonald's Israel Instagram account, while another wrote, "Well done McDonald's Israel."
