Amy Schumer has reacted on social media after facing backlash over her comments regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The stand-up comedian and actor, 42, has been showing her support for Israel online amid the country's war against Hamas, following the large-scale attack by the Palestinian militants on October 7.

Hamas said the attack was retribution for worsening conditions for Palestinians under Israeli occupation. The group is estimated to have taken more than 200 hostages from 25 countries and has threatened to kill some of them.

Human rights organizations have called for an urgent ceasefire after Israel launched hundreds of airstrikes on the Gaza Strip and put the territory under a siege that has caused a shortage of water, food, and electricity for the millions living there.

According to the latest report by The Associated Press, the Palestinian death toll now exceeds 8,000, as per the Health Ministry in Gaza. Also according to the AP, more than 1,400 people are now dead in Israel, with the majority killed on October 7.

Now Schumer, who has shared a number of posts expressing sympathy for the loss of innocent Israeli and Palestinian lives, has shared a post on Instagram that sheds light on her opinion about the ongoing conflict.

Schumer has not publicly addressed the backlash she has faced in her own words, instead choosing to repost a video from actor and comedian Lee Kern that is addressed to Jewish people. At the time of writing, Schumer had turned off comments.

"This is the moment you were prepared for. This is the moment where you were told you'd have to act. You can be anxious, you can be scared at times, but it doesn't mean you must not act," Kern said in the video.

"If you think we're outnumbered or overwhelmed or losing, then imagine what it would be like if we were doing nothing. In any case, don't worry, we will win. Stop worrying about the big picture, don't hypothesize about the outcome of all of this, because that could lead you to feeling overwhelmed and paralyzed and maybe freeze up with fear."

He continued: "As creative people that could get your imagination going and your thoughts concocting catastrophes that aren't true. The only thing that is true is the small, daily battle that is in front of you today, and tomorrow it will be the small battle in front of you then, and that's it."

Kern, who is Jewish, regularly posts online with messages and videos concerning the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

Newsweek reached out to representatives for Schumer and Kern for comment via email on Tuesday.

This comes after Schumer faced backlash on October 17 for speaking out in an Instagram Story. The actor accused a number of media outlets in the West of "blaming Israel" for the explosion that took place in the parking lot of al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City "without fact checking." She also called for editors at specified outlets to be fired.

"An Islamic Jihad missile killed hundreds of innocent Palestinians in a hospital in Gaza. Many Western outlets published a propaganda LIE, blaming Israel without fact checking. FACTS only reached the headlines an hour later," Schumer wrote in the post.

"Fire the @bbcnews @nyt @skynews @cnn editors who put terrorist lies on their homepages. Lies that stoke anti-Jewish hatred worldwide. Hold media prejudice accountable."

Her post sparked widespread criticism on X, formerly Twitter, as a number of people disputed her statement. Some even went as far as to say they were canceling the comedian.

"It's nice of Amy Schumer to give me a moral reason to hate her beyond just thinking she's cringe," commented another X user.

"I've got one word for @amyschumer," wrote another, "canceled."

Evan Nierman, CEO of global PR firm Red Banyan, previously told Newsweek that there is little to no rational explanation for the backlash Schumer's post ignited.

"The fact that she is being attacked is outrageous," he said. "Since when has delivering factual information and encouraging people to be careful to verify before buying into falsehood become an offense? The world has turned upside down.

"To deliver factual information should not result in being [labeled] as an Islamophobe. It's an inaccurate, unfair characterization of her. And she should be applauded for insisting on facts, and cautioning against buying into lies."
