Tucker Carlson has had a few choice words for recently elected House Speaker Mike Johnson over his support for giving aid to Israel.

On Thursday night, the House passed a proposal by Johnson that pairs $14.3 billion in emergency funding for Israel with $14.3 billion in cuts to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The measure passed 226-196, largely along party lines, with most Republicans supporting the bill and most Democrats objecting.

The passing has caused some uproar on Capitol Hill and beyond, an impracticable outcome for Johnson's first major legislative action. However, despite the motion being voted through by Republicans, prominent GOP supporter and former Fox News host Carlson was left less than impressed by Johnson's actions. Newsweek has contacted Mike Johnson's office for comment via the contact form on his website.

Referring to the ongoing situation between Israel and Hamas, Carlson said, per Ron Filipkowski on X, formerly Twitter: "[If] you think the welfare of another country is the most important thing for you as one of the leaders of our country, third in line to the presidency, you have lost the thread, son."

Speaking with Theo Von on the This Past Weekend show hosted on YouTube, Carlson added: "Nothing is more important to the leaders of our country than our country, and how 350 million people are doing. So I was enraged by that."

He then talked about people saying that he supports Hamas due to his belief that aid to Israel should not be prioritized. He said that "of course I am not for Hamas, at all. I'm for America, actually. I shouldn't even have to answer that question."

Carlson added that whichever side he supports in the ongoing conflict that has killed thousands of people is irrelevant, saying that he is "for America" first and foremost.

Johnson was elected speaker on October 25 after a tense few weeks in the GOP as they disputed who should lead the House following the ousting of Kevin McCarthy, less than a year into the post. But Johnson's first big legislative move has been threatened with the veto by President Joe Biden, as well as Chuck Schumer, the majority leader of the Democrat-controlled Senate, who said he would not bring it up for a vote.

The bill passed by the House this week would provide billions for Israel's military, including $4 billion for Israel's Iron Dome and other defense systems to counter short-range rocket threats, as well as some transfers of equipment from U.S. stocks.

Biden has requested that Congress authorizes a more-comprehensive emergency spending package of $106 billion. This includes allocations for Israel, Taiwan, and Ukraine, along with humanitarian assistance. Schumer said the Senate would consider a bipartisan proposal aimed at addressing these broader policy objectives.
