Here’s what Shubman Gill told James Anderson after launching him for a six

In an on-field exchange with Jonny Bairstow on Day 3 of the fifth Test match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) stadium, Shubman Gill has revealed what he said to James Anderson after hitting him for a straight six on his way to the century on Day 2.

Baristow, who is playing his 100th Test match asked Shubman Gill, standing at the first slip, “What did you said to Jimmy, that you are retiring? Then he get you out the next ball.”

Gill responded: “So what? He can get me out after my hundred. What you have done in this series?”

To which Bairstow replied: “How many have scored full-stop.”

Sarfaraz Khan patrolling at the short leg played the role of peacemaker and chips in “Johny bhai, easy, Johny bhai easy.”

Then Sarfaraz asked wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel to keep Shubman Gill grounded, “Chup rehne bol usko, jara sa run kya bana liya series mein uchal raha hai (Ask him to calm down. He has scored a few runs in the series and he is getting excited).

After the days play on Day 2, Shumba had refuted to reveal the chat he has had with James Anderson.

“I think it would be better for both of us to keep that chat in private,” Gill has told the broadcaster.

Immediately after the banter, Bairstow was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav, ending his enterprising knock in which he struck three fours and three sixes.

The milestones

The 34-year-old Bairstow became the 17th player to reach a career century of test matches for England. He scored 29 and 36 in both the innings and crossed the 6000 Test runs, becoming only the 17th England player to reach the milestone.

Meanwhile, James Anderson became only the third bowler to pick up 700 test wickets but his celebration was muted with England facing a third-day defeat in the fifth and final cricket test against India.

Anderson, already the third-highest wicket-taker in test history, joined the 700-club when he dismissed India’s Kuldeep Yadav on Saturday morning at Dharamshala. The England veteran achieved the feat in his 187th test and is the first pace bowler to reach the milestone.

He followed Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan (800 wickets in 133 tests) and Australia’s Shane Warne (708 wickets in 145 tests), both spin bowlers to have achieved the mark.
