Super Rugby Pacific: Former All Black Julian Savea breaks Super Rugby try record during Moana Pasifika loss 

Former All Blacks and Hurricanes winger Julian Savea has made history, scoring his 61st Super Rugby try during Moana Pasifika's 29-23 loss to Melbourne Rebels in Hamilton to become the leading try-scorer in the competition's history.  

Savea, 33, had shared the record on 60 with former Waratahs fullback Israel Folau since scoring two tries for the Hurricanes against the Fijian Drua last season but was finally able to make the record his own.  

Although now playing in centre for Moana, the 2015 Rugby World Cup winner slid across the try line on the right wing in the 49th minute - a try very similar to the many he scored for the Canes and All Blacks.  

Savea, who made his Super Rugby debut in 2011 and is the most capped Hurricane of all time, scored the bulk of his tries in two spells for his hometown club, with a stint playing with Toulon in France in between.   

He joined Moana this year for their third Super Rugby Pacific campaign.  

Known as 'The Bus', Savea was one of the most devastating players in his position during his prime and helped the Hurricanes win their first and only Super Rugby title in 2016.   

He also scored 46 tries in 54 tests for New Zealand between 2012 and 2017- equal for the second most all time.
