Indian skipper Rohit Sharma scored yet another century against England in the second day of the 5th Test at Dharamsala on Thursday, setting all sorts of records along the way.

The Indian skipper hit his 12th Test ton off off 162 balls in an innings peppered with 13 boundaries and three sixes.

En route to the feat, he joined the legendary Sunil Gavaskar to become the opener with most Test centuries against England at 4. The two luminaries are followed by Vijay Merchant, Murali Vijay and KL Rahul who are all with 3 tons against the Three Lions.

Rohit also made it to the list of international openers with the most hundreds with 43. He is in the 3rd position behind David Warner and Sachin Tendulkar who have 49 and 45 tons to their names respectively. Rohit is followed by Chris Gayle who has 42, Sanath Jayasuriya who has 41 and Mathhew Hayden who has 40 centuries.

The 36-year-old is also 4th in the list of most hundreds by an Indian batter in internationals where he is jointly tied with current coach Rahul Dravid with 48. They trail Tendulkar who has 100 tons and Virat Kohli who has 80.

The India skipper tops the list for the most Test hundreds for India since 2021 with 6, followed by Shubman Gill with 4. Ravindra Jadeja, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul come next with 3 tons each.

In the match, England bowlers led by Shoaib Bashir inflicted regular blows in the third session but India reached 473 for eight in their first innings at the end of the second day of the fifth Test.

Off-spinner Bashir (4/170) and left-arm spinner Tom Hartley (2/126) scythed through Indiaโ€™s middle-late order, but the hosts found some late resistance from Kuldeep Yadav (27 batting) and Jasprit Bumrah (19 batting) to stretch the lead to 255 runs.

Before that India batsmen made a merry run as Rohit, Shubman Gill (110) made hundreds while Sarfaraz Khan (56) and debutant Devdutt Padikkal (65) ran England ragged.

The lone point of consolation for England was the sight of their skipper Ben Stokes bowling, a first since last yearโ€™s Ashes.

Stokes got rid of his opposite number Rohit too to make the occasion memorable.
