Sunil Gavaskar has compared Shubman Gill’s stunner to end England opener Ben Duckett knock on opening day off the fifth Test match at the Dharamsala to Travis Head’s catch of remove Rohit Sharma in the ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad, last year.

Former India captain on air said: “It reminds of Travis Head’s catch in the World Cup Final.”

The catch of Rohit Sharma has switched the momentum towards Australia in the final and the Pat Cummins-led team ended up winning the World Cup.

It was a full length delivery pitched outside the off stump from Kuldeep. Duckett down on a knee was looking to hit it down the ground, instead he gets a leading edge and Shubman Gill holds on to a screamer to provide India it’s first breakthrough.

Shubman Gill sniffed half an opportunity, he ran for his life, he backpedalled, judged the flight and dip of the ball and lunged sideways to grab the ball.

The catch ended the opening stand of 64 runs between Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley. Duckett, who had two boundaries off Kuldeep Yadav’s first over, perished in search of the third. He scored an uncharacteristic 27 off 58 balls.

Gill also got praise from former India head coach Ravi Shastri, who said: “That’s a brilliant catch. He had to run a good 20-25 yards and he comes up with the balls in two hands. And India have their breakthrough.”

At Lunch on Day 2, England are 100 for 2. Kuldeep Yadav (2/22) picked both the wicket as England lost Ollie Pope at the stroke on lunch.

Pope was bamboozled by Kuldeep. Keeper Dhruv Jurel, just before the delivery, said : “Yeh badhega aage (He will step out.” Pope did exactly the same and was completely outdone by Kuldeep, he has no chance of getting back in the crease and Jurel whipped off the bails.

Zak Crawly, who scored his fourth fifty of the series remained unbeaten on 61.
