Australian batter Will Pucovski suffered yet another concussion during his Sheffield Shield outing for Victoria against Tasmania at the Blundstone Arena on Sunday.

Walking in at number three in a 442-run chase, Pucovski suffered a blow on the head of his second delivery from a Riley Meredith bouncer. Pucovski attempted to duck against a delivery that shot up from the pitch and it hit him, forcing the 26-year-old out of the field. It is unlikely that the right-hand batter will take any further part in the match.

“Will is currently in the hands of our medical professionals. We’ll look to provide an updated in due course,” a Cricket Victoria spokesperson was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

Pucovski, widely regarded among the brightest prospects in the Australian circuit, has been a victim of on-field concussions since the start of his career. The Victorian had suffered three concussions before his First-Class debut. Pucovski also suffered a blow to his head on FC debut while fielding in February 2017. Between October 2017 and his Test debut in 2021, Pucovski would suffer four more concussions of varying degrees.

Pucovski made his Test debut, his only appearance, against India in January 2021, compiling 72 runs in two innings. By February 2022, Pucovski suffered his 11th concussion before taking a year’s break from the game in October 2022 for mental health reasons.

He made his return to cricket this summer in October 2023 and has featured in seven matches since. In January, Pucovski had again developed concussion symptoms after being struck on the helmet during a second XI game in Adelaide. He was subsequently ruled out of a Sheffield Shield encounter against South Australia.

Pucovski was earlier dismissed for 22 in Victoria’s first-innings against Tasmania. In his previous match, Pucovski had struck 131 against New South Wales – his seventh First-Class hundred.
