‘Your smile made me cry’: Suryakumar Yadav’s emotional message to R Ashwin

Suryakumar Yadav has posted an emotional message for R Ashwin, after the off-spinner completed his 500 Test wickets on Day 2 of the third Test at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.

Ash bhai yaar rula diya aapke smile ne (Your smile has made me cry),” Surya wrote on his Instagram story.

“Congratulartions to you and your family.”

Ashwin, who reached the milestone after taking the wicket of Zak Crawley in England’s first innings has withdrawn from India’s Test side in Rajkot, effective immediately, because of a family medical emergency.

“The BCCI extends its heartfelt support to the champion cricketer and his family,” the Indian board said in a media release.

“The health and well-being of the players and their loved ones are of utmost importance. The Board requests respect for the privacy of Ashwin and his family as they navigate through this challenging time.

“The Board and the team will continue to provide any necessary assistance to Ashwin and will keep the lines of communication open to offer support as needed. Team India appreciates the understanding and empathy of the fans and media during this sensitive period.”

Surya had also lauded Mohammed Siraj for his efforts on Day 2. “Maaf karna bahut bade bowler of yaar (Forgive me, you are a great bowler),” Surya wrote.

Mohammed Siraj has grabbed four wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja picked up two each as England were dismissed for 319 in 71.1 overs.

India had made 445 in their first innings with Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja scoring centuries.

England were 290/5 at lunch, but after the break Siraj took the wickets of Ben Foakes, Rehan Ahmed and James Anderson, while Jadeja accounted for the dangerous Ben Stokes (41) and Tom Hartley. At Tea on Day 3, India are leading by 170 runs but lost their captain Rohit Sharma.

India will play the remainder of the third Test with 10 men and four specialist bowlers.
