Cricket: Kyle Jamieson ruled out of rest of home summer, to miss Australia tour with back stress fracture

Kyle Jamieson has been ruled out of the rest of the Blackcaps' summer in another injury blow for the fast bowler.

After missing all of the 2022/23 home season with a stress fracture in his back, 29-year-old Jamieson has suffered a recurrence of the same injury after the first test against South Africa at Mt Maunganui.

However, if there's one positive for Jamieson, it's he will not need surgery on the injury this time around.

Jamieson was rested from the Blackcaps' limited overs series against Bangladesh with a hamstring concern.

"The last few days have been some of my most challenging but I am hugely grateful for the support I've received from my partner, family, teammates, support staff and medical professionals," Jamieson said.

"I know injuries are part of life as a cricketer and at my age I am hopeful I still have many more playing days ahead of me."

Jamieson sat out of the second test in Hamilton over the past week and was replaced by Will O'Rourke, who took nine wickets as the best figures for a Kiwi debutant.

The Blackcaps squad to face Australia will be named later this month.
