Glenn Maxwell equals Rohit Sharma as batter with most T20I centuries with 120 vs WI

Glenn Maxwell equalled India skipper Rohit Sharma’s record for the most number of centuries in the T20I format with his blistering 120 runs against West Indies in the 2nd T20 on Sunday. Now, both batters have 5 T20I international centuries.

Maxwell took just 55 balls to reach 120 in an innings which was peppered with 12 boundaries and 8 sixes as he helped the Aussies post 241/4.

“It was good fun, that’s for sure. Always good batting here, we saw in the Big Bash how good the wickets were during the tournament. The wicket was nice and true. I have always rely on my hand speed, worked for me today. Give myself the best chance always. My parents are here In Adelaide as well. Nice to play a positive knock,” the player said during the mid-innings break.

The West Indies had to chase the total but even with a spirited 63 from captain Rovman Powell, they lost the match by 34 runs.

Earlier, Powell won the toss Sunday and decided to bowl first against Australia in the second of three Twenty20 matches.

In the 1st T20I on Friday, opener David Warner celebrated his 100th T20I appearance by smashing 70 off 36 balls and spinner Adam Zampa picked up 3-26 as Australia beat West Indies by 11 runs.

Warner and Tim David (37 not out off 17 balls) provided a strong finish for Australia to reach 213-7 in the first Twenty20 international after being asked to bat first.

West Indies, which needed to chase down its second highest-ever T20 total, couldn’t capitalize on a brisk start from Brandon King (53) and Johnson Charles (42) as Zampa struck crucial blows and restricted the opposition’s chase to 202-8 in its 20 overs.

Warner and fellow opener Josh Inglis, who made 39, smacked the spin of Akeal Hosein and pace of Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph (2-46) as the pair racked up 93 runs in eight overs.

Australia swept the three-match one-day international series and the teams split their two-Test series.
