Why do we need to prepare turning tracks in India: Sourav Ganguly gives his thoughts about playing on ‘good wickets’

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who has always being an advocate for pace bowling, on Saturday said that India should prepare sporting pitches rather than rank turners.

“When I see Bumrah Sami Siraj Mukesh bowl . I wonder why do we need to prepare turning tracks in india ..my conviction of playing on good wickets keeps getting stronger every game .. They will get 20 wickets on any surface with ashwin jadeja Kuldeep and axar .. batting quality dropping because of pitches in last 6 to 7 yrs at home ..good wickets are a must .. india will still win over 5 days ..
@bcci,” he tweeted on X on a day when pacer Jasprit Bumrah ripped England to shreds with 6 wickets.

The ex-BCCI chief had also expressed a similar view during India’s home series against Australia early last year, particularly after the Indore pitch earned “poor” rating from the ICC.

“Great to see Ashwin bowl so well on a good pitch… class will always show…Hopefully, this will be a good Test match…a good opportunity for Indian batsmen after some tuff wickets to bat on, in this series,” Ganguly had tweeted during the Ahmedabad Test after spinner Ravichandran Ashwin bagged six wickets.

On Saturday, Bumrah tore through the England batting lineup as he took 5 wickets, his 10th 5-wicket haul in the longest format, in the second day of the second Test.

The speedster who got to his 150th wicket in the same innings scalped the likes of Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes and Tom Hartley to put India firmly in the driver’s seat.

He would ultimately end up taking 6 wickets with figures of 6/45 as England were bowled out for just 253, chasing India’s 396, still trailing by 143 runs.

He took 6781 to get to his 150 wickets which is the fastest by any Indian bowler and puts him above the likes of Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Kapil Dev and Ravichandran Ashwin.
