Netball: Former Silver Ferns captain Gina Crampton's next move confirmed, signs with Giants in Australian Super Netball as training partner

Post At: Jan 31/2024 02:20AM

Former Silver Ferns captain Gina Crampton has signed on with the Sydney-based Giants in Australia's Suncorp Super Netball series.

Crampton, 32, is currently on a break from netball in New Zealand, and was living in New York with partner Fa'asiu Fuatai, who plays in Major League Rugby.

The mid-courter is out of Silver Ferns contention this year, with her break ruling out any chance of turning out in the ANZ Premiership.

On Wednesday, the Giants confirmed Crampton as one of four new training partners for the side, after relocating to Sydney.

"Adding someone like Gina [Crampton] into our environment is a huge boost," said Giants coach Julie Fitzgerald.

"To have someone of her calibre and experience on the court for our midcourt to train against on a weekly basis will only have our squad better placed for the talent they are set to come up against this season.

Crampton actively pursued the opportunity by reaching out to the Giants after her move.

However, her deal is only as a training partner, and will almost certainly mean Crampton won't play in Super Netball, barring injury to the Giants' other midcourters.

Signing with the Giants will see Crampton reunite with former international teammate Sam Winders, who signed at the end of 2023.
