Karnataka Ranji team captain Mayank Agarwal was rushed to a hospital in Agartala on Tuesday after he fell sick on board a New Delhi-bound flight.

Per a Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) source, who was quoted by PTI, Agarwal is believed to be out of danger and is in a medically stable condition.

“He (Agarwal) is not in any kind of danger. He is under observation currently in a hospital at Agartala, and we will fly him back to Bengaluru once we get an update from the doctors, which we are expecting tonight,” said the official before confirming that Agarwal will be missing out on Karnataka’s Ranji Trophy game against Railways in Surat starting February 2.

Later in the day, IndiGo airlines also issued a press release to address the incident. “IndiGo flight 6E 5177 operating from Agartala to Delhi returned to origin due to a medical emergency onboard. The passenger was off-loaded and was rushed to the hospital for further medical assistance. The aircraft took off again for its destination at 1620h.”

Expanding on the incident, Kiran Kumar K,  Superintendent of Police of West Tripura – who was reached out by the player’s manager to register a complaint – told the agency, “(Mayank) while sitting on a flight saw a pouch in front of him and thinking of it as water, drank it. He had swelling and ulcers in his mouth. His condition is normal, and his vitals are stable. His manager has made a complaint. We are registering the complaint and will investigate the matter.”

Agarwal was alongside his Karnataka teammates in Agartala to play their Ranji Trophy Group C match against Tripura. The visitors had emerged victorious by 29 runs as the captain scored a fifty in the first innings.
