Cricket: First Blackcaps v Australia test at Wellington's Basin Reserve sold out

More than a month before the opening ball is bowled, New Zealand's first test against Australia at Wellington's Basin Reserve has been sold out. 

The reigning world test and Twenty20 champions travel across the Tasman next month for three T20 matches and two five-day fixtures, but NZ Cricket warns tickets for all those encounters are selling fast.

In the case of the first test, starting February 29, they are already gone... at least for the first four days. Fifth-day tickets aren't usually released until the end of the fourth day, depending on the state of play. 

"Following four out of five sold-out matches for the Pakistan series and the first game at Eden Park seeing 20,000-plus fans, it's clear the fans are enjoying the product,” said NZ Cricket commercial manager Chris Smith.

"A packed venue always creates a special atmosphere for fans and players alike, and I know it certainly gives our Blackcaps an edge as the home side.

"I'm sure with more full houses in store, Kiwi fans will get to enjoy the gameday experience, and all the drama and excitement an Australia series provides. Our message to the public is to get in quick to secure a ticket to the remaining matches."

Limited tickets are available for the second test at Christchurch's Hagley Oval, starting March 8.

The Australian tour dates are:

Wednesday, February 21 - First T20 at Wellington's Sky Stadium

Friday, February 23 - Second T20 at Auckland's Eden Park

Sunday, February 25 - Third T20 at Auckland's Eden Park

Thursday, February 29-Monday, March 4 - First test at Wellington's Basin Reserve

Friday, March 8-Tuesday, March 12 - Second test at Christchurch's Hagley Oval
