‘Test may get over by day-and-a-half’: Mohammed Siraj’s verdict on England using Bazball in IND vs ENG series

With England travelling to India to play a five-match Test series, a lot of chatter has been focussed on whether England will look to adopt Bazball tactics against the hosts. India will start as favourites having never lost a Test series at home in nearly 12 years, claiming 16 series victories at home on the bounce.

Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj believes that if England chose to employ Bazball tactics against India, matches might head for lightning-quick ends.

“If England play Bazball in Indian conditions, the match may get over within a day-and-a-half or two. It’s not easy to hit every time here as the ball turns sometimes and straightens on other occasions. So, I think it’ll be difficult to see Bazball here. But if they play it, it’ll be good for us as the match may get over quickly,” Siraj told JioCinema ahead of the Hyderabad Test which will kickstart the five-Test series against England.

Opening up about his preparations for the tour, the pacer added: “On England’s previous tour to India, the matches were getting over quickly. In that series (in 2021) I think I played two matches. In the first innings of one of these, I bowled five overs and took two wickets of Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow. So, the aim will be to control runs in how many ever overs I bowl. If I get wickets fine, but I’ll have to stay patient and continue building pressure on the batsmen.”

The match at Hyderabad will be special for the fast bowler since he will be playing at his home venue.

“I am waiting for all our fans in Hyderabad to turn up for the game. We love them a lot and look forward to their support,” he said.

For the first two Tests in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam, hosts India will be without talismanic Virat Kohli.
