Cricket: Amelia Kerr rescues Wellington Blaze in thrilling Super Smash tie against Central Hinds

Another star turn from spinner Amelia Kerr has helped Wellington Blaze escape with a dramatic tie in their Super Smash showdown with Central Hinds at the Basin Reserve on Saturday.

The White Ferns standout backed up her historic haul of 5/10 - the best women's figures in competitions - two days earlier with a second straight five-wicket bag (5/13) to rescue the Blaze, after they'd earlier slumped to their lowest total in almost six years.

After choosing to bat first, the Blaze managed just 109/7 - Rosemary Mair leading the way with 2/19 off her four overs.  

Georgia Plimmer was one of just three Blaze batters to reach double figures, with Kerr adding 26.

At 89/3 in response, the Hinds appeared to be on track to complete a comfortable victory, until Kerr captured a trio of wickets in aa devastating 16th over to drastically swing the momentum.

Leigh Kasperek compounded the Hinds' woes with a double-wicket maiden to leave them reeling at 98/8 with two overs remaining.

Needing 12 runs off 12 balls to win, tailender Claudia Green slammed a pair of critical boundaries off spinner Xara Jetly's 19th over, after Kate Gaging's departure had left the Hinds with one wicket remaining. 

With the scores level one the final ball of the game, Hannah Rowe toppled Monique Rees' off stump to seal the second tie of the Super Smash season.

The result means each team claims two competition points, extending tne Blaze's lead atop the ladder and making little difference to the struggling Hinds' position at the bottom of the standings.

The Blaze mover on to host Northern Brave on Monday, while the Hinds travel to Auckland to face the Aces on Sunday.
