‘Who’s Virat Kohli? A player?’: Ronaldo reacts after being asked about India cricketer

Indian cricket talisman Virat Kohli may have an army of followers on social media but there are still some corners of the world that he is not easily recognisable.

According to Statista, Kohli is the 13th most followed celebrity on Instagram with a follower count of 265 million. Footballers like Cristiano Ronaldo (with 616 million followers) and Lionel Messi (496 million followers) are easily on the top of the list, Kohli is the most followed Indian on the social media platform.

However, there are still some who don’t know who he is. Recently, in a conversation with a YouTuber, Darren Jason Watkins Jr who runs the handle IShowSpeed and is known as Speed, Brazil football legend Ronaldo was asked what he thought about Kohli.

Here’s how that conversation went:

Speed: “Do you know Virat Kohli?”

Ronaldo: “Who?”

Speed: “Virat Kohli, from India.”

Ronaldo: “No.”

Speed: “You don’t know Virat Kohli!”

Ronaldo: “What is he? A player?”

Speed: “He is a cricket player.”

Ronaldo: “He is not very popular in here.”

Speed: “Yeah, yeah. He is like the best. He’s better than Babar Azam. You have never seen this dude?” (pointing to Kohli’s photo)

Ronaldo: “Yeah, of course I have seen him.”

Kohli missed the first T20I against Afghanistan on Thursday because of personal reasons. He will be back in the Indian cricket team for the second T20I on Sunday.

Kohli, who has not played for the Indian team in the T20I format since India’s semi-final ouster from the T20 World Cup in 2022, is making a bid to feature at the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in USA and West Indies in June this year.

India will take on England in a keenly-contested series after the Afghanistan series.
