‘He’s a bit Hollywood’, David Warner to arrive for BBL game at the SCG by helicopter

The last few days have seen Australia celebrate David Warner. Having played his farewell Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground last week, Warner had also announced his retirement from 50 overs cricket.

The celebrations will continue as Warner turns his attention to the Big Bash League. Returning from his brother’s wedding to play for the Sydney Thunders, Warner will arrive at the SCG by helicopter that will touch down on the outfield near the ‘Thanks Dave’ logo, which was painted for his last Test.

“He’s going to a lot of effort to come and play for us,” Thunder quick Gurinder Sandhu was quoted by ESPN Cricinfo. “We love having him here. Last year he was awesome for us, maybe didn’t score as many runs as he would have liked but around the group and passing on knowledge was awesome to have him around. He’s one of the better team men. All the fans get to enjoy him playing cricket.”

“He is a bit Hollywood, isn’t he, that’s very Davey,” joked Sean Abbott of Sydney Sixers. “I got the Lime bike in today and I’ll be doing the same tomorrow night and riding out the gate as Davey lands. I’m glad they are making it happen because think everyone in the country who is a fan of cricket wants to see David Warner in the BBL and I’m really looking forward to coming up against him. One of the best players in the world and has been for a long time.”

Earlier it was planned that Warner’s chopper would land at the nearby Allianz Stadium, but that plan was dropped.

The match against Sydney Sixers on Friday is going to be one of the three appearances Warner will make for Thunder this season. It was only last year that the southpaw had made a big money deal with the BBL side in Cricket Australia’s attempt to field their big players in the T20 tournament.
