WATCH: Rohit Sharma left fuming at Shubman Gill after getting run out for duck on T20 comeback

For the first time since the T20 World Cup in 2022, Rohit Sharma marked his comeback for India in the shortest format for the first T20I against Afghanistan in Mohali.

However, the Indian skipper’s return was cut short with the bat after a disastrous miscommunication with Shubman Gill at the non-striker’s end saw him dismissed without scoring a run.

It happened in the first over of India’s chase as Rohit played the ball towards mid-off which was saved by a diving Zadran. Rohit had already ran out of his crease and reached the non striker’s end but Gill was caught ball watching and did not leave his end. Ultimately, Rohit was the one who was run out and he exchanged a few choice words with Gill before walking off with a disgusted look in his face. Here’s the video:

Gill, who went on to dispatch a couple of neat strokes, was also dismissed shortly afterwards as India went two down in the powerplay.

Earlier, Mohammad Nabi (42 off 27) and Najibullah Zadran (19 off 11) provided finishing touches as Afghanistan scored 158/5 after being put in to bat first by India.  From the hosts, Mukesh Kumar and Axar Patel nabbed a couple of wickets each.
