Josh Hazlewood strikes thrice in an over as Pakistan crumbles to 68/7 in Sydney

Pakistan pacers managed to retain a first innings lead after restricting Australia to 299 in Sydney on Friday. However, the moods in the visiting side’s dressing room were dampened by the end of the day as the Aussie bowlers – led by Josh Hazlewood – removed seven wickets in the final session of the day.

With Pakistan four wickets down for 60, Hazlewood would add to their troubles in the penultimate over of the day. The right arm seamer went on to remove Saud Shakeel, Sajid Khan and Agha Salman in a maiden over – W,0,W,0,W,0. By the end of the day, the score read 68/7 with Pakistan leading by 82 runs.

“I have had good luck with Shakeel in this series. On this wicket, we were attacking the stumps as much as Pakistan were doing. I have noticed in this game that when we are bowling with wobble seam, we were getting a lot out of the wicket,” Hazlewood would tell the broadcasters afterwards.

“Starc kept it nice and full and was attacking, The best time of the day was when the ball got older, it’s not falling apart but it’s doing quite a bit, it’s patchy in nature. It was quite loud during the wickets, it was quite amazing. Lead of 82, as you see the wicket, it’s quite tough. Anything around 130 would be ideal to chase. Rizwan is a dangerous player, hopefully we will see the back of him early tomorrow,” he added.

Pakistan however were in a similar position on Day 1 of the Test, having lost seven wickets at the score of 82 when Aamer Jamal went on to score 82 to help propel his side to 313.

Having already clinched the series 2-0, Australia would be eyeing a clean sweep in Sydney to mark David Warner’s final Test with a win.

The southpaw had been claimed for the score of 34 in the first innings that saw only Marnus Labuschagne cross the 50 mark for the hosts.
