Indian skipper Rohit Sharma emphasized on the importance of workload management given the packed schedule. India will play five Tests at home against Bangladesh and New Zealand followed by a trip to Australia for five-match Test series. In the middle of red-ball games, a few white-ball T20Is too are sprinkled for the next few months.

“We will keep it in the back of the mind,” said Rohit ahead of the first Test against Bangladesh to reporters in Chennai. “You want your best players to play all the matches but it is not possible.” Post the red-ball series India will play a match T20I series against Bangladesh. “There are T20s lined up as well, so join for the manage well. We will monitor them and we have done it well in the past.”

“We managed to give [Jasprit] Bumrah and [Mohammed] Siraj one Test off during the England series,” Rohit recalled. In a five-match series, Bumrah was rested for the fourth Test in Ranchi and Siraj for the second Test in Vizag. “We will talk to Physios and manage that. In the Duleep Trophy we had some exciting talents. Not worried about the pool,” Rohit added.

It’s tough

Rohit last played a red-ball game in the final Test against England in Dharmshala earlier this year whereas Kohli last appeared in the format for India in the New Year Test at Cape Town in South Africa “It is tough. Not easy when you haven’t belayed for 8 months of Test cricket. But a lot of us have experienced before. It has happened previously before.” the 37-year-old said.

“That’s why we had the camp here. Spent good hours on the field and get everything together. They manage themselves very well. Lot of us played Duleep Trophy as well. In terms of preparation, we are ready for what lies ahead of us. We used the camp in Chennai very well,” he concluded.
