Bangladesh after a historic win against Pakistan will next travel to India for a two-match Test series. While Bangladesh looked well equipped for the conditions in Pakistan they will face a different challenge in India none so important than the ball. Bangladesh’s wicket-keeper batter Litton Das mentioned about the SG ball and the lack of Bangladesh players’ exposure to the media.

“India is a big team, and the ball will also change. We rarely play with that ball. It will be challenging. The players are working very hard. As for preparation, we are facing the main bowlers as much as we can. The SG ball is somewhat difficult. We are practicing; let’s see what happens.” In Bangladesh the balls usually used are Kookaburra.

SG balls are hand-stitched balls, and assist the bowlers for longer. In contrast, the Kookaburra is machine-stitched, and the seam gets flat after some time making it more batter-friendly. “The SG ball does not swing initially. After 8-10 overs it starts swinging and again the chance of reversing is also high. In English conditions the ball may not reverse early it may take more than 60 overs,” said Bharat Arun speaking to this publication once.

“In Kookaburra is different it swings about 15-20 overs when the ball is new and it is hard. After the seam is not as prominent as SG or Dukes. Kookaburra- batsman love it! Especially after 30 overs. It doesn’t swing around much,” Arun would say. “The hardest and the most sprout seam is Dukes and then comes your SG and then comes your Kokka tells former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta speaking the The Indian Express on level ease to bat against.

Litton would also mention how India is a difficult team to beat at home. “When we play India at their home, they are always the better side. I wouldn’t say it will be extremely challenging or very easy. They are a very good team in their conditions. If you look at the rankings, they are so high up. So, I think it will be a challenging series for us.”
