AFG vs NZ Test: After losing 1st 2 days due to wet outfield, what’s the weather forecast for Day 3?

Afghanistan vs New Zealand Test Match Today: The first two days of the Test match between New Zealand and Afghanistan did not see a ball being bowled. The reason behind this was overnight rain and the ground staff being unable to clear the wet patches on the playing area which could be hazardous for the players.

While the sun has shone during the day on both days it is the evening when the rain has poured down not allowing the ground to dry out completely hence the current predicament.

How does weather look like?

According to Accuweather.com, the sky will be clear and there are no rains predicted for the remainder of Tuesday, which ideally should allow the toss to happen. However, 1 mm thunderstorms are predicted in the afternoon of Wednesday which might bring the game to a halt. Given how two days have panned out it is highly likely that even a brief spell can have significant damage on the pitch.

An ill-equipped venue

Earlier, the incessant rain hampered Afghanistan’s one-week training camp as they only managed to eke out one three-day game instead of the planned two.

On the other hand, the New Zealand cricket team’s two practice sessions were completely washed out due to rain and on Sunday, they didn’t even step out for routine fielding drills due to the soggy outfield.

The Indian Express had reported last week about the poor drainage, soggy outfields, and flooded practice pitch, which the groundstaff were trying to dry out with table fans.

“Our first choice was the Lucknow stadium and the second was Dehradun. Our requests were rejected by the BCCI and we were told that both the states are hosting their respective T20 leagues. This was the only ground available and we had no other choice left,” an ACB official told The Indian Express on condition of anonymity.

“You won’t believe me but the stadia in Afghanistan have better facilities than this one. We have improved our infrastructure in the past few years but here as Shahidi has mentioned nothing has changed.”
