The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday appointed Ajay Ratra as the newest member of the Men’s Selection Committee as a replacement for Salil Ankola.

Ratra will work under chief selector Ajit Agarkar and will join the other members of the committee who are Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, and Sridharan Sharath.

Ratra is a former India wicketkeeper-batter, having played 6 Tests and 12 ODIs after his 2002 debut for the country. He has also played over 90 First Class matches, scoring close to 4000 runs and had over 240 dismissals for Haryana.

He also scored an unbeaten 115 against the West Indies in 2002-03 and became the youngest wicketkeeper to score a Test century. He was also the second Indian wicketkeeper to do so in an overseas series.

Ratra was part of a India U-19 team which won the Youth World Cup in 2000 and led the team against England to a home series victory.

“As a selector, Mr. Ratra will work alongside the existing members of the selection committee to identify and support the next generation of cricketers who will represent India on the global stage,” a BCCI release stated.

“His insights will be instrumental to the committee in ensuring that the best talent is identified, nurtured, and given the opportunity to excel at the highest level,” it added.

Previously, Ratra has worked as a Head Coach of Assam, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. He was also a part of the coaching staff of the Indian team during their ODI series in South Africa in 2023.
