Former Team India head coach Rahul Dravid said luck was not on their side in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia. India lost the final by six wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

“Sometimes at the end of the day, you need a little bit of luck,” Rahul Dravid said at the CEAT Cricket Awards event.

Dravid recalled how Indian fast bowlers kept beating Travis Head bat but failed to get the wicket of Australian opener.

“I remember whatever it was, we beat Travis Head’s bat 15 times — he did not touch a single ball,” said Rahul Dravid.

“You know, things can go your way sometimes, but you have to stick to the process. I have had time to reflect on it. I have had time to reflect on a lot of things we have done.

“You do realise, sometimes, you have to do a lot of these things, you have to do the process, you have to do everything right.”

Batting first, India were bowled out for 240. KL Rhaul (66), Virat Kohli (54) and Rohit Sharma (37) were the notable contributors for India.

For Australia, Mitchell Starc (3/55), Josh Hazlewood (2/60), Pat Cummins (2/34), Adam Zampa (1/44) and Glenn Maxwell (1/35) picked up the wickets.

Chasing the modest total, Australia reached the target in 43 overs with six-wickets in hand.

Travis Head scored a fantastic century and it was his 192-run stand for the fourth wicket with Marnus Labuschange (58 not out) that alsmist sealed the deal for Australia.

Travis Head was adjudged player of the match for his spectacular century and the opener also took a spectacular catch earlier in the game to send back Rohit Sharma.
