Sri Lankan cricketer Niroshan Dickwella has been suspended for a doping violation “until further notice”. The test was done during the recently concluded 2024 Lanka Premier League (LPL) Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency (SLADA).

Dickwella has not met the guidelines of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). “SLC, together with the Ministry of Sports and SLADA, conducts these tests during domestic tournaments randomly to safeguard the sport against anti-doping violations,” read a statement released by Sri Lankan Cricket.

“The commitment to a clean and fair game is of utmost importance to SLC, and any allegations of violations are taken with the highest level of seriousness,” it further added.

The wicket-keeper batter has captained Galle Marvels. He made his last appearance for the national side in March 2023.

Noteably this is not the first time Sri Lankan cricket had to take on action Dickwella. The 32-year-old along with Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka famously were suspended for breaching the COVID-19 protocol in 2021 and faced one year ban.

The trio was caught on camera on the streets of Durham (England) during the limited overs series, which was a bio-bubble breach and they were sent back home midway into the tour and were suspended and were slapped a 10 million rupees fine.

SLC at the time decided to ban them from international cricket for one year and six months from domestic cricket. There will also be a suspended sentence of one year which will be valid for two years provided there is another transgression from the players.

Dickwella represented Sri Lanka in 54 Tests (2757 runs at 30.97 average), 55 ODI’s (1604 at 31.45 average) and 28 T20Is (480 runs at 18.14 average)
