Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met the Indian Olympic contingent which returned from the Paris Games with 6 medals.

The PM said that every player who went to Paris is a champion and the government will continue to support sports and ensure that a top-quality sporting infrastructure is built.

“It was a delight to interact with the Indian contingent that represented our nation in the Paris Olympics. Heard their experiences from the games and lauded their feats on the sports field. Every player who went to Paris is a champion. The Government of India will continue to support sports and ensure that a top-quality sporting infrastructure is built,” he said in a series of posts on X.

The hockey team presented the PM with a stick signed by all the players. The players, including the just-retired PR Sreejesh and captain Harmanpreet Singh, were seen posing with the PM with the bronze medals on their necks.

Earlier in the day, the members of the Indian contingent were present at the historic Red Fort where Modi addressed the nation on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day.

In his address, the PM said that it was his dream for India to host the Olympics and they are preparing for it.

“It is the dream of India to host the 2036 Olympics, we are making preparations for that. India organising the G20 Summit on a large scale has proven that India has the capability to organise large-scale events,” he said.

He also lauded the Olympians for their performance, saying, “Today, we also have with us the youth who made the Indian flag fly high in the Olympics. On behalf of 140 crore countrymen, I congratulate all our athletes and players.”
