India at Paris Olympics 2024, Day 8 schedule: Manu Bhaker in contention for historic 3rd medal, boxer Nishant Dev eyes podium spot

If Thursday was a day of heartbreaks, then Friday brought some cheer. India missed out on a historic archery medal as Ankita-Dhiraj fell short in the bronze medal match. But there were some significant results, most importantly Manu Bhaker qualifying for a third final of the Games.

Saturday isn’t a hectic day for Indians, but it promises to be exciting.

SHOOTING

It has been an incredible campaign for Manu Bhaker already in Paris. Two finals, two medals. And she did exceptionally well on Friday in the 25m event too, to be in contention for a third medal.

India’s archery heartbreaks continued as Dhiraj and Ankita fell agonisingly short of a medal. Bhajan Kaur, Deepika Kumari resume their individual recurve campaigns from the round of 16 stage.

BOXING:

One of the more impressive Indian boxers in recent times, Nishant Dev has the chance to end a long wait for India’s 2nd men’s boxing medal. QF win assures a place on podium

GOLF
Men’s Individual, Round 3: 12.30 pm
Gaganjeet Bhullar, Shubhankar Sharma

Subhankar Sharma is the higher-placed Indian at the halfway mark, carding a 2-under 69. Bhullar is tied-52nd, two above par. Golf continues into round 3.

SAILING:
Vishnu Saravanan, Nethra Kumanan: 3.35 pm onwards

Nethra Kumanan had a strong Race 1 but couldn’t keep that up on day 2, finishing 15th & 27th. Vishnu finished 20th & 19th on the 2nd day.

Men’s Dinghy, Race 5 & 6: 3.50 pm onwards
Women’s Dinghy, Race 4, 5, 6: 3.35 pm onwards

International events to watch out for:

Athletics
Women’s 100m: 12:40 AM (4th August)
It’s the Women’s 100m final, which means all eyes are on Sha’Carri Richardson. The American sprinter missed out on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after turning in a positive dope test but is the favourite to take the women’s crown at the Stade de France.

Swimming
Women’s 800m freestyle: 12:39 AM (4th August)
Katie Ledecky’s hunt for Olympic medals continues with the American lining up for the 800m freestyle. A win here would mean the decorated swimmer would take her fourth gold medal in the 800m freestyle, a record that dates back to the London 2012 Games.

Badminton
Men’s doubles: 6:30 PM onwards
Chinese duo of Wang Chang and Liang Weikeng’s debut Olympics have gone according to plan, now that they are in the men’s doubles final. Facing them would be Chinese Taipei’s Chi-Lin Wang and Yang Lee.

Artistic Gymnastics
Women’s Vault Final: 7:50 PM onwards
Simeone Biles has garnered all the eyeballs at the gymnastics at the Paris Olympics and now the women’s vault final is a chance for the American to pick up her third gold medal at these Games.
