India added a third medal to their shooting (and overall) tally on Thursday, but mostly, it was a day that a severe blow to what the country’s overall tally is going to be at the end of Paris Olympics 2024. Satwik-Chirag, Nikhat Zareen, and to a lesser extent, Sift Kaur Samra were all eliminated from their events and those were three serious medal contenders fo many before the Games began. Will Friday bring some cheer? Here’s a look at their schedule.

BADMINTON
Men’s Singles: Around 6.30 pm
Lakshya Sen

There might have been heartbreak for Satwik-Chirag and HS Prannoy, but at least one member of the 2022 Thomas Cup world champions squad moves on. Lakshya will hope to keep the momentum going.

Men’s singles QF, Lakshya Sen vs Chou Tien Chen: Session starts 6.30 pm

HOCKEY:
Men’s Pool B, India vs Australia: 4.45 pm

Quarterfinals spot is not a concern for Harmanpreet Singh and Co but there is still quite a bit riding on this clash against their nemesis, Kookaburras. India would aim to finish as high as possible.

ARCHERY:
Mixed team event, from R16 to medal rounds: Starts 1pm
Ankita Bhakat, Dhiraj Bommadevara

There has mostly just been disappointment from the archery range for the Indian contingent but when the event began, the mixed team event was a medal hope. Can they overcome the heartbreaks so far?

Athletics
Men’s 10,000m: 12:50 AM (3rd August)
Uganda’s Joshau Cheptegui won the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics but comes into Paris as the favourite for the men’s 10,000m crown. With three Worlds titles to his name and the last of which he won by over a second, Paris surely couldn’t throw a surprise in, could it?

Football:
Men’s quarterfinal: 12.30 am (3rd Aug)

France vs Argentina. The protagonists might not be the same, but this is going to be a grudge match alright given everything that has happened since the Qatar World Cup final. Going to be heated, you imagine.

Swimming
Men’s 50m Freestyle: 12:00 AM (3rd August)
Caleb Dressel time at the Paris Olympics. The United States of America swimmer, six medals at Tokyo and what not, comes into Paris as the biggest name in the event but Team GB’s Benjamin Proud remains the favourite in the event after smashing Dressel’s WR in 2023.

Judo
Men’s 100kg+: 1:30 PM onwards
Teddy Rinner has medals in the last five Olympic Games — right from Beijing to Tokyo. The French judoka has three golds and two bronze medals to his name. Now at his home Olympics, Riner finds himself attempting to reach that hallowed stage once again.

BMX Racing
Women’s racing: semifinals, 11:45 PM onwards
In her fourth Olympic Games now, USA’s Alise Willoughby is a clear gold-medal contender, especially considering she took the 2024 World Championships top spot. In the 33-year-old’s mind would be that uncharacteristic exit at the Tokyo Olympics and the desire to change her fortunes in Paris.
