India’s Ramita Jindal on Monday finished seventh in the 10m air rifle women’s final at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 20-year-old shot 145.3 in a high-scoring eight-women final.

Ramita was placed seventh after 10 shots (104.0), when the elimination began. A shot 10.5 pushed Ramita to sixth place even as Norway’s Hegg Jeanette Duestad made an exit. But the Indian exited in the next round of elimination.

Ramita Jindal had breezed into the final of the women’s 10m air rifle event on Sunday by shooting a score of 631.5 in the qualification round.

She had thus become the second Indian to advance to the final of a shooting event at Paris Olympics after Manu Bhaker. They were soon joined by Arjun Babuta, who qualified for the men’s 10m air rifle final. It must be noted that at the Tokyo Olympics, only one Indian shooter has managed to qualify for the finals, which was Saurabh Chaudhary, who has ended seventh in 10m air pistol.

Ramita Jindal and her partner, the Chandigarh-based Arjun Babuta, had already experienced heartbreak in the 10m air rifle mixed team event at the Paris Olympics, after they had finished sixth on the first day of the Paris Olympics.

Who is Ramita Jindal?

Ramita Jindal is a rifle shooter living at Ladwa District in Kurukshetra. She started her tryst with rifle shooting when she was just 13 years old, while she was studying in Class VIII.

Ramita Jindal started her rifle shooting stint at a local academy called Karan Shooting Academy, Ladwa. In the beginning she would go there for just one to two hours. But one year into this, she started to find this interesting.

At the recent Asian Games, Ramita Jindal had claimed two medals: a silver in the team event and a bronze in the individual event.

Beside this she also has two Junior World Championship golds from Cairo 2022 and a bronze from the Junior World Championship in Lima in 2021.

At the senior level, she has claimed a gold and a silver at the ISSF World Cup: gold medal in the 10m air rifle women team event at Baku 2022 WC and silver medal in the 10m air rifle women team event at the World Cup in Changwon in 2022.
