Scotland bowler Charlie Cassell made his way into the record books after he became the first bowler in ODI history to claim 7 wickets in his debut.

With his figures of 7/21 against Oman in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 match in Dundee, Cassell broke the record for the best figures on ODI debut which was previously held by South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada.

The Protea bowler had taken 6/16 in his ODI debut against Bangladesh in 2015. Another bowler who had taken 6 wickets on ODI debut was West Indies’ Fidel Edwards who returned figures of 6/22 against Zimbabwe in 2003.

On Monday, the Scottish bowler trapped Zeeshan Maqsood lbw and cleaned up Ayaan Khan with just his first 2 deliveries. He would then snap up the wicket of Khalid Kail in the same over and then followed up with the scalp of Shoaib Khan in his second over.

He would then go on to send back Mehran Khan, Pratik Athavale and Bilal Khan which led to Scotland bowling out Oman for just 91 runs, a target that they easily chased down with 8 wickets to spare.

“You’ve come back from a huge setback, with that massive injury you had, put you out for a year and a bit. Just to see your resilience coming back, getting back on the park, and just love watching what you do at Forfs, and just the way how you hold yourself is incredible,” Scotland captain Richie Berrington had said while presenting Cassell with his cap before the game.
