The hard-hitting southpaw, however, made amends as he teamed up with Ruturaj Gaikwad to rebuild the innings. Abhishek opened his account with a six over deep mid-wicket against off-spinner Brian Bennett.

The Punjab batter was dropped by Wellington Masakadza when on 24 in the eighth over. He then broke the shackles in the 11th over as he smashed medium-pacer Dion Myers for 26 runs in an over on the back of three fours and two sixes.

Abhishek doubled up his score in quick time, becoming the fastest Indian to score a T20I hundred from debut, surpassing Deepak Hooda who slammed his maiden T20I ton in his third innings against Ireland. Abhishek reached the mark on the back of three consecutive sixes off Masakadza. He was dismissed caught at backward point off the next ball.

Among players from Full-Member Nations, Abhishek equalled South Africa’s Richard Levi and West Indies’s Evin Lewis as the fastest batters to record their maiden T20I hundreds in only their second appearance.
