NRL: NZ Warriors star Shaun Johnson hits back at social media trolls, as injuries undermine form

NZ Warriors star Shaun Johnson has responded to social media trolls, after news that he will spend at least on the sidelines, rehabbing a troublesome Achilles tendon injury that has plagued him all season.

After falling one vote short of the prestigious Dally M Medal - the NRL's Most Valuable Player award - last season, the veteran half has struggled for form during the current campaign and has been closed down for at least a month in the hope he can make a full recovery.

The move comes amid questions over his place in the Warriors line-up, which broke a four-game losing streak and reeled off three wins in a row, with Johnson nursing a shoulder injury. Since his return, they have lost twice, including a record-equalling debacle against bottom-of-the-table Gold Coast Titans.

In his absence, Te Maire Martin and Chanel Harris-Tavita combined effecitvely in the halves, and will now renew that partnership on Saturday against Brisbane Broncos.

Johnson has been a popular scapegoat for disgruntled fans throughout his career, but has hit back at the latest round of cricitism on Instagram.
