Curtley Ambrose dissects what makes Jasprit Bumrah special: ‘short run-up…looks like he is walking’

India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah is arguably one of the best of his generation. From lethal yorker to deceiving slower the pacer can execute all his variations with pinpoint accuracy consistently. In the ongoing T20 World Cup too he has been a goto bowler to Rohit Sharma time and again.

Bumrah already showed his game-changing ability when he picked up Mohammad Rizwan during India’s game against Pakistan when the latter was cruising towards a win in New York earlier in the tournament.

Not only has he picked up 10 wickets but also has the best economy in the tournament among bowlers who have bowled over 100 balls. He is just going at the miserly economy of 3.42. Former West Indian legend Curtley Ambrose dissects Bumrah’s bowling and says on Sports Tak he is a “different bowler.” Ambrose observes Bumrah’s run-up and says “he is unorthodox and not a traditional type of bowler who comes with a long run-up and bowls. He takes a short run-up and it looks like he is walking.”

“Bumrah hits the deck hard and that creates more problems. And especially with that short run, it is difficult for batsmen to formulate in their minds the pace at which that ball is coming,” analyzed another West Indian fast bowler Michael Holding in the past on the ‘Sony Ten Pit Stop’ show aired on channel’s Facebook page.

“He can swing the ball and generate pace when he wants. So he is a very skilled bowler,” Ambrose further added.

Bumrah alone cannot win the World Cup

Despite the form of Bumrah, Ambrose opines that he alone can not help India win the World Cup he also needs the support of other bowlers. “He has the skill and ability but this is a team game. So he cannot do anything alone. Apart from this, if the batter does not score runs then India can lose. Therefore, this is a team game but despite this, he can play a big and important role in the victory.”
