David Johnson, former India cricketer, passes away in Bengaluru at age of 52

David Johnson, former international cricketer and right-arm fast bowler from Karnataka, passed away in Bengaluru on Thursday morning at the age of 52.

Born on October 16, 1971, in Arasikere, Karnataka, he represented India in international cricket during the mid-1990s. Johnson made his Test debut for India against Australia in October 1996 and played in a total of two Test matches. Johnson’s career highlight was clocking a bowling speed of 157.8 km/h during the Test match against Australia.

His last Test match was against South Africa at Durban in 1996. Despite showing potential with his pace, he did not have a long international career and did not play in One Day Internationals (ODIs) for India.

However, his domestic career included playing for Karnataka, where he contributed to the team’s successes in domestic competitions. He recorded his best match figures of 10 for 152 against Kerala in the 1995-96 Ranji Trophy season, which brought him to the national reckoning.
