After a video of him involved in a heated argument with a fan did rounds on the social media, Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf has issued a statement on X on the incident.

“I decided to not bring this on social media, but now that the video is out, I feel it is necessary to address the situation,” Rauf wrote.

“As public figures, we are open to receiving all kinds of feedback from the public. They are entitled to support or criticize us. Nevertheless, when it comes to my parent and my family, I will not hesitate to respond accordingly. “It is important to show respect towards people and their families, irrespective of their professions,” he added.

This is such disgusting behavior by the fans when players are out with their families, and fans are swearing at them. This needs to stop. You may disagree with their performance, but you can’t use such language when they’re with their families. Have some respect. pic.twitter.com/XFy9zh6wZ8

In the clip that went viral, Rauf is seen walking alongside his wife as he bumps into a group of people. While the words exchanged aren’t audible in the video, they make the pacer lose his cool and rush towards one of the individuals.

Shaheen Shah Afridi also took to his X account in support of Rauf. “It is absolutely disgraceful how Haris Rauf was treated. No one has the right to belittle and disrespect another person. I’m also shocked by those who have shared this video. Why prioritize a few likes over our humanity? Stay strong, Haris. We stand united with you,” Afridi wrote.

Hasan Ali, who wasn’t part of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad, also took to his social media, asking fans to be constructive in their criticism. “I’ve seen a video circulating online about Harry (Haris Rauf) and I urge all my dearest cricket fans to remember that criticism can be constructive without being hurtful. Let’s keep the debate respectful and considerate of the players’ families. Let’s promote love, peace and respect for the GAME. We all want Pakistan cricket to rise,” Ali wrote.

Rauf, along with the Pakistan national team, have been under the scanner after an early exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup – following defeats against USA and India in the group stage.

From his four games at the World Cup, Rauf snapped seven wickets for Pakistan at an economy of 6.73 and was the joint highest wicket taker for his side with Mohammad Amir.
