India were bowled out 119 for their lowest T20I total against Pakistan in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Group A match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday.

India, sent into bat, suffered an early jolt after a rain break when Virat Kohli was dismissed for four off three deliveries in the second over. Kohli charged Naseem Shah through the off-side, only to find the point fielder. Skipper Rohit Sharma was next to perish as he flicked Shaheen Afridi to the deep square-leg fielder.

Even as no. 3, Rishabh Pant made the most of three reprieves to keep India afloat alongside Axar Patel, Shah and Haris Rauf broke the back of the middle-order. India went from 89 for two to 97 for seven in the space of only three overs, with Pant capitulating on 42 off 31 deliveries against Mohammad Amir. Rauf then returned to dismiss Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah off successive balls in the 18th over before being shot out in the following over.

Rauf and Amir were the pick of the seamers, picking up three wickets apiece.

The total was India’s lowest in 12 T20Is against Pakistan since 2007. It is also India’s third lowest score batting first across nine T20 World Cup editions.
