Kylian Mbappe completes transfer to Real Madrid, posts photo with boyhood hero Cristiano Ronaldo: ‘Club of my dream’

Two days after they sealed a 15th Champions League title, the party continues for Real Madrid as the Spanish club on Monday announced the much-anticipated signing of France captain Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe, who announced his departure from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain last month, has joined the La Liga champions on a free transfer with an initial agreement for five seasons, the club confirmed.

“A dream come true, So happy and proud to join the club of my dream, Real Madrid. Nobody can understand how excited I am right now. Can’t wait to see you, Madridistas, and thanks for your unbelievable support,” Mbappe wrote on his social media, posting his childhood photos wearing a Real Madrid kit, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo during his time at the club.

Mbappe’s affinity to the club in the Spanish capital has been long known. The World Cup winner with France has been linked to the club over the years. In 2022, reports of a move to Spain had been loud but Mbappe would extend his contract until June 2024, after an even elusive deal was offered by the Parisian club.

In a recent interview to CNN, Mbappe opened up on his decision to stay with PSG in 2022. “It was more than just staying at PSG. It was the World Cup in Qatar. It was many things around these things. It was a big decision, difficult decision … but I don’t regret anything. Of course, in a career, you have to take difficult decisions and it’s what I did, but I became the all-time top scorer with PSG. I just want to remember the best things. It was not an easy situation and I wish nobody to live that,” he said.

Mbappe’s arrival to Madrid bolsters an already strong squad that ended the season with the league as well as the European Cup title. He will link up with the likes of Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo to form a mouth-watering attacking partnership.
